Bob Vieira

Bob Vieira, Ed.D.

Vice Provost of Academic and Student Affairs

Bob oversees the Office of Science Education Opportunities and outreach efforts campus-wide. The SOAR (Science Outreach and Resources) Committee is advisory to him and together they establish budgetary priorities and develop strategies for securing new funding with our community partners. These efforts help to develop and mobilize OHSU's unique resources and increase science literacy throughout the region.



Susan Shugerman

Susan Shugerman, MFA

Director, Science Education Opportunities

Susan is the first director of Science Education Opportunities at OHSU. This office provides the central coordination for OHSU's K-12 science education efforts. She works with faculty, students and staff to provide direct services to classroom teachers and students, develop OHSU faculty, students and staff to be better teachers, mentors, and translators of science, provide general scientific education to the public and develop OHSU's infrastructure to support science education. Susan is also a member of the SOAR committee.



William Cameron

William Cameron, Ph.D.

Associate Professor, Allied Health/Behavioral Neuroscience

Bill is the faculty advisor to the Office of Science Education Opportunities. He is also the founder and chair of the SOAR Committee. He represents the SOAR committee's interests to the Faculty Senate, helps prioritize projects, recruits new members and provides the link to the faculties within the School of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Science & Engineering.



Erin Fryer

Erin Fryer, B.A.

Manager, Discover OHSU!

Erin is the most recent addition to the Science Education team at OHSU. She is the manager of Discover OHSU!, a program that provides educational visits to the Marquam Hill campus for high school and college-age students enrolled in science, health science or health career programs throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington. She works with teachers, OHSU faculty, students and staff as well as volunteers from the Assistance League of Portland and the community at-large to implement the program which has been a valuable component of OHSU.s outreach since 1985. Erin is also a member of the SOAR committee.
