Discover OHSU!

Discover OHSU! provides educational visits to the Marquam Hill campus for high school and college-age students enrolled in science, health science or health career programs throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington. The majority of the more than 3,500 students that participate annually are juniors or seniors in high school. Tours are offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from October through May.

Visiting students hear about current research and technology at OHSU. In addition, students enrolled in Anatomy and Physiology, Advanced Placement Biology or another appropriate course, may, with signed consent, participate in a cadaver presentation led by a second-year medical student. A limited number of visits to clinical or research facilities may be arranged for student groups with fewer than twenty (20) students

Areas previously visited by students include Angiography, Behavioral Neuroscience, Cardiology, Casey Eye Institute, Cell and Developmental Biology, Child Life Therapy, Clinical Lab Science Program, Clinical Skills Laboratory, Comparative Medicine, Dietetic Internship, the Dotter Institute Program, Educational Communications, Emergency Department, Health Promotion and Sports Medicine, Hemostasis and Thrombosis Lab, Library Services, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Molecular and Medical Genetics, Patient Transportation, Pediatric Orthopaedics, Physiology and Pharmacology, Radiation Therapy, Rehabilitation Therapy and Surgical Nursing.

In collaboration with the Center for Diversity and Multicultural Affairs (CeDMA), students from underrepresented groups are offered the opportunity to attend informational panel presentations with representatives from CeDMA while visiting OHSU. This one-hour presentation includes a student panel discussion designed to provide insight, motivation and direction to underserved and underrepresented students interested in health and science careers. In addition, presentations on Allied Health careers may also be arranged.

Discover OHSU! also partners with Donate Life Northwest to provide information regarding organ, tissue and whole body donation. Students attending Donate Life NW presentations hear from both a professional in the field and either a donor recipient or a donor family member.

Volunteer tour guides, who are either members of the Assistance League of Portland or the community, escort visiting students. To inquire about scheduling an educational visit through the Discover OHSU! Program, contact Adrienne Ochs, Manager, at 503-494-5267 or ochsa@ohsu.edu.
